PYLI Class 9 met for its final session on December 9, 2009, to complete their community service project and have an informal graduation celebration. The day was full of organizing, planning, presentations, and SHOPPING! As part of the project this year, all PYLI members agreed to solicit donations from area businesses, organizations, and individuals in order to purchase Christmas gifts for Caddo County foster teenagers. When the money was all counted, the group had raised nearly $4000! We were so happy to be able to give each teen over $150 in gifts and gift cards. The project was considered a great success by all!
A trip to Wal-Mart, Department of Human Services, then lunch at City Hall took up our morning; a short meeting with Sam from SWAT then our graduation celebration finalized our day!
PYLI has been a remarkable experience this year, and every member has learned more about leadership, teamwork, and community service.
PYLI's next step is to start working in groups to combat tobacco use in SWAT, so get ready for a SWAT meeting in January! See you all January 6, 8:00, same place as usual.
Happy Holidays and God bless you all.
Cindy
